Beachy Head: beauty spot/suicide central?

I'd only heard of Beachy Head because of it being a particularly popular place for people to throw themselves off the cliff to their deaths. But looking at the photos I'd found online, it seemed really beautiful and needless to say, when we arrived it was even more amazing in person. It's a very dramatic, powerful landscape and we found ourselves speechless for much of the time we spent walking along the cliff tops.

The weather made it really quite an extreme place on its own. When we parked up, it promptly started hailing a thick shower of almost grape sized hailstones. We'll wait in the car then! After 15 minutes the hail cleared to reveal bright sunlight. In our hurry to make the most of the sunshine, we got a little disorientated walking from the car to the cliff and suddenly couldn't work out where the cliff face was. We walked up what seemed like a hill and all of a sudden the land cut away before us and there was a sheer drop; no fences, no warning, this place is not for the faint-hearted.

As we were enjoying the views from the edge, the sky began to darken and looking out to sea we saw rain clouds approaching fast. The wind was so severe (gross alert) I almost couldn't feel my nose was running as it was practically blasting it off my face! The rain flew at us almost horizontally so we were well and truly soaked, but somehow we were still enjoying the view so we managed to stay out exploring for a further three hours.

An intensely beautiful, atmospheric place for a lovely walk.

As for my outfit, I was definitely going for practicality here!! The double coat look isn't something I usually do but in this case it was completely necessary and I really appreciated it as we walked for miles. The hat was borrowed from Tommy, as it's extremely thick and warm, and the hunter wellies differ from regular wellies in that they support your feet a lot more, are a lot warmer and generally are a lot more comfortable. Beneath my wellies are my new favourite socks, my Woolie Boolies - a Christmas present from my Dad, they're the thickest warmest merino wool socks which are heaven for cold feet like mine. If your feet tend to be on the chilly side, these are what you need.  I'm the first one to moan when I'm cold and it would've been a really miserable day if I hadn't been in all these layers, so I'm happy to compromise a little style for comfort occasionally.
