Lyon. France's second city and Unesco world heritage site, for good reason. The photos above show the Cathedral and the Basilique de Notre-Dame de Fourvière up on the hill, known as 'la colline qui prie' (the praying hill). The bridge crosses the Saône river, one of two in Lyon - the peninsula between the two rivers is known as Presqu'île. It's a really pleasant area to explore; the shopping is dangerously good and the food is even better.
Back across the Saône is the old city, Vieux Lyon, a maze of cobbled streets lined with interesting shops, cafés and museums. We came across a museum of movie costumes and miniatures, a candle shop where everything is handmade in jam jars and a café serving the most sinful hot chocolate and the best brioche I have ever tasted - the pink bits are almonds, I'm not really sure what they do to make them taste this good but whatever it is, it works!
We took the funicular up to Fourvière and the view is really amazing. The interior of the basilica contains some interesting frescoes and a really beautiful mosaic mural.
As for my look, I am just loving my black ASOS coat. The cut is perfect as it's specifically petite, so I don't have to contend with overly long sleeves and I don't lose any height from being cut off at an awkward length. The black jeans are from Zara, I can't usually get away with their trousers as they're miles too long but this was a cropped style so fits well. The chain strap bag is from Primark and will satisfy my needs until I can afford a Chanel one - I say this but I seem to be very prone to collecting crap and spilling in every bag that I own so perhaps it's better as a pipe dream... The plaid shirt is Topshop and I love that it's green one side, red on the other. The Boohoo boots are pointed which works well to lengthen my little legs and the scarf is cashmere and possibly the best thing I own. It's an old one of my mum's, which unlike my bags I take meticulous care of and will guard with my life!
I highly recommend Lyon if you've already been to Paris a few times and fancy a slightly smaller, but no less interesting French getaway. I really enjoyed being able to explore everywhere on foot and being much less touristy it was far more relaxing.
Milly ♥
